I've Never Had More Fun In My Life Than Watching This Yankees Team
The Yankees aren’t just beating the Orioles. They’re doing it on a level that no one else has done to any opponent in baseball history. Last year, part of the reason they fell short of the division title was their inability to beat the Orioles. It was embarrassing. This year, they go into every game with a must-win mentality. A championship mentality. Could that be because there are guys on the field like Mike Tauchman, Mike Ford, Austin Romine, and many more who don’t want to take one second of playing time for granted? That’s definitely part of it. These guys are getting the opportunity of a lifetime and they are taking full advantage of it. Let’s go through some numbers real quick, starting with this graphic that doesn’t feel real.
The Yankees have hit more home runs in their nine games at Camden Yards this year than the Tigers have hit at home in 51 games. They’re just one behind the Giants. They’ve played about 40 less games than those teams in the respective ball parks. I have not stopped looking at that stat. It’s simply unbelievable. I do not believe it. How is that possible?
The Yankees are the first team in MLB history with four 5+ HR games in a road ballpark in a single season. The Yankees’ 14-game win streak at Camden Yards is the longest in a road ballpark in franchise history. It’s the longest road win streak by any team since the Braves won 14 in a row at the Astrodome. Considering this has mostly been done without Stanton or Judge and it’s even more crazy. Shout out to Katie Sharp on Twitter for digging these up, she’s fantastic and a must-follow for Yankees fans.
They still have another game tonight and four more at Yankee Stadium to go. Safe to say they’re going to obliterate that record.
Then there’s Mike Tauchman. Aside from making this ridiculous HR robbery last night…
The Sock Man picked up two more extra base hits, including an early homer and a late double down the left field line. Over his last 21 games Tauchman is hitting .441. FOUR FORTY ONE. That’s the best average in baseball in that span. Better than Bellinger. Better than Yelich. Better than Trout. He’s driven in 22 men and scored 20 times in that span as well. He batted 9th for the Yankees on Tuesday night.
He’s also just a hilarious baseball player to watch. Boone was asked about it after the game and couldn’t help but laugh when thinking about how fired up he gets and then quickly puts on a serious face to call time. Last night he looked like he was trying to stop an oncoming bus from hitting him, then did a yoga pose, and called time.
He’s a must watch player every night. I get more excited for his at bats right now than Judge’s, and that’s not a knock on Judge at all. Tauch is can’t miss.
I’ve never had more fun in my life than watching these guys play baseball. Most teams dread seeing the bottom of their order get up. Ours go for the throat. Despite a billion people on the I.L. this lineup 1-9 is relentless, fearless, and never show mercy. They just keep coming. I’ve never seen anything like it. If they end up winning the whole thing the DVD is going to be five hours long and I’ll watch it on repeat for the rest of my life. I love this team more than my own family.
I’m worried about Gleyber obviously and we’ll know more later today about what’s going on with his core as he gets tests done in NY. If it means an I.L. stint that’ll just mean more time for Breyvic and maybe Thairo. Next. Man. Up.
